Two rising stars will sing what is believed to be the first operatic music ever performed at the West Plains Opera House. The performance will take place TONIGHT (Saturday Nov. 24) at 7 pm. World-renowned tenor Michael Spyres and his wife, soprano Tara Stafford--both native Ozarkians--will sing selections from various operas in which they have appeared, as well as non-operatic selections including film and stage classics. (As Toni Chritton-Johnson, owner of the West Plains Opera House explains, most 19th century music halls and live-music venues were called "opera houses" as a sort of generic term--so Tara and Michael are the first singers to actually SING opera in this building!) Tickets are $12 in advance at Wild Vine in Bradford Square, Ropers Saloon on the Square, or Cafe 37; they'll be $15 at the door tonight. For information call (417) 256-3780. A reception will follow the performance.
