Springfield Regional Opera presents an English language production of Rossini's The Barber of Seville on Friday, February 21st at 7:30 and Sunday, February 23rd at 2:00 at the Gillioz Theater, 325 Park Central East. SRO’s production of Rossini's lively comedic romp is set in the heart of the 1960s. The young Count Almaviva falls in love with Rosina, the ward of greedy Dr. Bartolo. Wanting to win her affection, Almaviva enlists the aid of Figaro, apothecary and barber, to help him free his beloved from old Bartolo's clutches. MSU faculty members figure prominently in SRO's production: Dr. Paula Patterson is stage director, with conductor Dr. Amy Muchnick. The cast includes Dr. Chris Thompson as Figaro, Katelyn Lee as Rosina, Icelandic tenor Vigthor Zophoniasson as the Count, along with Jeff Carney and Dr. Richard Todd Payne.
