The West Plains Council on the Arts and the West Plains Civic Center will sponsor an exhibit of paintings by Michael Walsh entitled “Motifs of Light” at the West Plains Civic Center, July 17 through 31 on the mezzanine at the West Plains Civic Center. Exhibit hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. The exhibit is made possible with funding from the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency. The Library Center invites everyone to a free, live concert of patriotic music by the Springfield Brass Choir TONIGHT (Fri. 7/2) at 6 p.m. on the Library Center patio, 4653 S. Campbell Ave. The musicians are Springfield-area instructors and many are former members of the elite Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps bands! Tanning Bed

The nationwide 10 percent tax on tanning salons began today (Thursday) to help pay for President Obama’s health care overhaul package passed by Congress earlier this year. KSMU’s Ryan Welch has the local take on the tax.
