Anderson Resigns from Branson Economic Development Post

City of Branson

Branson’s economic development director is stepping down. Garrett Anderson accepted a similar post with the city of Woodstock, Illinois to be closer to his family.

“This is a family move for me”, said Anderson.  “I’ll be taking my family back to Illinois; closer to family, and closer to my parents.”  In his letter of resignation to the City Administrator Bill Malinen, he said of Branson, “It has been my great honor and privilege to serve the citizens and stakeholders of Branson.  I have attempted to discharge my responsibilities in a fair and transparent way.  I appreciate the confidence and support that you and the Board of Aldermen have given me over the past 6 years.”

Anderson, who has been with the city since 2009, will conclude his work in Branson this Friday. He’s also served as communications director for the past three years.

In a news release, Anderson said he is proud of the city’s ability to weather the recession and its bounce back from the 2012 tornado. He said that businesses and employers are investing in Branson again, noting that sales and tourism receipts and building permits are up, and downtown is thriving.

Malinen says officials will take some time in determining the next step with regards to economic development duties. He said the Board of Aldermen and other community organizations such as the Taney County Partnership, and the Chamber & Convention and Visitors Bureau will identify the city’s needs before moving forward.
