The 17th annual Check Out Hunger fundraiser for Ozarks Food Harvest raised more than $31,000. That equates to nearly 159,000 meals for children, families and seniors in southwest Missouri, according to the food bank.
The fundraiser ran from November through December, 2015, but the food bank received checks from participating grocers through the first few months of this year. OFH says this was an ideal time to receive a financial boost since donations tend to drop after the holidays.
The campaign gives shoppers the chance to add a $1, $3 or $5 tax-free donation to their grocery bill when checking out at local retailers.
The annual fundraiser has raised a total of $418,882 since it started, which provided nearly 2.1 million meals for hungry people in Ozarks Food Harvest’s 28-county service area.
