The application process is now open to fill the Zone 1 council seat in Springfield recently vacated by Jeff Seifried.

A link to apply for the position online was posted to the city’s website today. Interested citizens can also pick up an application from the city clerk’s office at 840 Boonville.

The deadline for submitting applications is March 27, and council will review and select finalists in April.

Seifried, who also served as mayor pro tem, stepped down earlier this month to take a job in Branson. Councilman Jerry Compton has been chosen as the new mayor pro tem.

Qualified applicants must:

  • Be a qualified and registered voter of the city.
  • Be a resident of the city for at least two years immediately prior to election and a resident of Zone 1 for at least one year.
  • Not be a candidate or nominee for any other paid public office (exceptions: National Guard, Naval or Military Reserve, or Notary Public)
  • Not be employed by the City of Springfield or any of its departments (except for Public Safety), boards, or agencies during or for one year after serving on the Council. Public Safety employees should contact the City Attorney's Office for clarification of their ability to apply.
