Employers needing seasonal workers ahead of the holiday season will meet with job seekers later this month in Springfield.

The Battlefield Mall Seasonal Hiring Event takes place Tuesday, Oct. 18, with open positions in retail, food services and more.

From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. multiple employers will gather at the main entrance to meet applicants.

“This is an opportunity to meet with some of the hiring managers. This should be treated like an interview,” Megan Short, communications coordinator for the department of workforce development, said.

Applicants are advised to bring a resume or information about any work history.

“I would also recommend for any job seeker to have a quick 30 second pitch about themselves prepared so whenever they walk up to one of these employers they’re prepared and they know what to say on why they’re a good fit for the company, why the person should hire them over anyone else.”

A mobile career center will be on- site. It is equipped with 12 computers and internet so applicants can apply for positions online.  Officials will also be available to help applicants through process.

Anyone can stop by the Career Center’s location at 2900 E. Sunshine St. to gather any material ahead of time to prepare or borrow professional attire before the event.

Short notes that while many of these positions are temporary, some could be extended beyond the holidays.

“These are seasonal positions but a lot of these positions will last sometimes into January so they will last at least a couple months and sometimes these seasonal positions can actually turn into additional opportunities,” Short said.
