U.S. Senator Roy Blunt has been chosen to serve as Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules and Administration for the 114th Congress.  According to a news release from Blunt’s office, members of the committee voted for Blunt Wednesday, and the full Senate confirmed the vote this afternoon.

The Committee on Rules and Administration is responsible for overseeing matters relating to rules, procedures, and administration of the Senate. Blunt has served as a member of the committee since joining the Senate in 2011.

The outgoing Rules Committee Chairman is U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (N.Y.). According to the news release, “most recently, the biggest discussion about early potential rules activity has focused on whether the Senate will restore the 60-vote threshold for executive and judicial nominations.”

“I’m honored that my colleagues chose me to fill this important role in the 114th Congress,” said Blunt. “I’m confident that we can restore and uphold the Senate’s tradition of open debate in a more transparent and accountable way for the American people.”

Blunt also serves as a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
