Computer Science and Robots; An Interdisciplinary Bonanza

Missouri State University

Tony Clark has his feet in more than one camp.  After obtaining a degree in Electrical Engineering, he entered a graduate program at Michigan State University that forged ties between his own Computer Science department and Biology, as well as engineering.  As part of this team, he built robots and used a computational simulation of an evolutionary algorithm to optimize their performance.

Now that he has come to Missouri State as an Assistant Professor, he is incorporating the same kind of approach into the design of small robotic systems that can perform a wide array of important tasks.  Working with students from multiple disciplines, he is hoping to grow our own team of Missouri State robot designers.

Dr. David Cornelison has been working as an educator and scientist in Arizona and Missouri universities for the last 32 years. From 2010-2018, he was the head of the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science at Missouri State University. His research interests lie at the intersection of experimental condensed-matter physics and astrophysics, while his educational efforts have focused on outreach to the K-12 school system. Most of all, he believes in curiosity-driven learning in the sciences and all other fields.
