Commercial Street, between Benton and Washington, closed Monday and will remain closed for about a month.  It’s part of the Commercial Street Streetscape Phase 5 Project.  Crews will make improvements to the street, storm sewer and sidewalks.  Area businesses will still be accessible via the sidewalk.

And the 400 block of N. Jefferson is closed through Friday.  That’s at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad crossing.

Starting Tuesday (8/23), you won’t be able to park at Nathanael Greene-Close Memorial Park for four days.

The driveway entrance to the park will be closed for construction through Friday.  The Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad and the Springfield Public Works Street Department will replace the rail crossing at the park’s entrance.

The park will remain open during normal hours, sunrise to sunset, but the only way to access it, including the Springfield Botanical Gardens, the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, the Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden and other park features, will be on foot or on bicycle from the nearby South Creek Greenway.

Parking will be available outside of the park at South Creek Greenway trailheads at National and Sunset, at 3351 S. Kaufman and 4680 W. Rountree Rd.  The greenway is also accessible from Horton Smith Golf Course just west of the park.
