Various tax proposals go before local voters today (8/4). In parts of Greene, Christian and Webster counties, citizens will decide on a tax levy to improve services within the Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District.
County Clerk Shane Schoeller expects fewer votes than a traditional primary or general election, partly due to a lack of information available to voters.
“Normally if you have a primary, general election you have a higher turnout overall, you know, just because there’s normally more information people are seeing on their TVs, they're receiving In the mail, they're seeing on the yard signs, etc.,” says Schoeller.
But Schoeller says it does depend on the nature of the ballot issues.
“However it is to some degree a pocketbook issue, and so we know that when those happen people clearly have interest in that,” says Schoeller.
Schoeller expects about a 15 percent turnout for today.
“If they have any questions regarding where their polling location is they can call our office at 868-4060 and we will be happy to assist them,” he says.
Voting may be higher in Christian County where citizens will choose a new sheriff just months after its former top law enforcement official’s resignation and federal conviction. There’s also a park tax proposal before Nixa voters, among other county ballot items.
A Christian County Clerk’s Office official was not immediately available for comment regarding projected voter turnout.
