An event next week in Springfield is aimed at veterans in need.  Community Partnership of the Ozarks and the American Red Cross are teaming up for the Veterans Stand Down Tuesday September 23rd from 10 to 6 at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.

According to the Community Partnership, the event is designed to remove barriers and connect veterans with dozens of services in a one-stop-shop setting.  Veterans will get help with job readiness skills and employment services, education, housing resources, basic needs and medical and behavioral health services.  They’ll also have the chance to meet with VA and other veterans support services staff.

The Community Partnership says the event is geared toward veterans living in poverty or homelessness, but it’s open to all veterans.  The organization is calling it a hand up—not a hand out.  Hundreds of volunteers from two dozen service organizations are expected to take part in the event.

Contact the Community Partnership of the Ozarks if you’d like to volunteer.
