The National Weather Service Office in Springfield has issued a flash flood warning for Greene, northern Christian and southern Webster Counties in southwest Missouri until 3 pm today.

A flash flood warning is in effect until 2 pm for northern Stone, southern Christian and western Douglas Counties.

At 8:40 am, National Weather Service Dopplar Radar indicated that excessive rainfall was producing flash flooding in the city of Springfield.  Rainfall rates are exceeding one inch per hour.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur.  Locations in the warned area include Republic, Rogersville, Springfield, Strafford and Willard and the Ozark, Highlandville and Sparta areas.  Creeks, streams and low water crossing will be especially susceptible to the dangers of flash flooding.

Flash flooding of streets or poor drainage areas will occur within the city of Springfield.

This warning includes but is not limited to the following low water crossings:

Route U at Pedelo Creek northeast of Sparta

Scenic Avenue in southwest Springfield

Route C at the Little Sac River north of Strafford

Greenwood Rd. at the Pomme De Terre headwaters

E. Buena Vista Rd. at Ward Branch south of Springfield

Highway 13 at Pine Run northwest of Galena

Route FF at Hunter Creek and Turkey Creek east of Ava

Route Y at Cowskin Creek 3 miles west of Ava

Route O at Tory Creek 2 miles southwest of Highlandville

Total rainfall amounts of one to two and a half inches are expected, with locally higher amounts.

A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.  Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.  Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.
