Forum to Focus on Drugs and Youth Violence

discovermagazine.com

The Community Partnership of the Ozarks’ Task Force on Gangs and Youth Violence will host a community forum this week examining youth drug use and youth violence issues and how they are interconnected. “Drugs, Youth Violence, and what YOU Can Do,” will be held Thursday night (4/30) from 6 to 8.

According to CPO, the Springfield Police Department will present information about the “dramatic increase in heroin use in our area, overdoses, and the violent and sometimes deadly consequences of this drug.”

Loni Brewer with the Rare Breed will talk about victimization and violence towards homeless youth on the streets.  According to Brewer, there’s a “large chance that within the first 72 hours of being on the street, homeless youth will become victims to propositions like drugs and prostitution.”

Community members can ask questions and find out more about what they can do to help after the presentations.

Drugs, Youth Violence and What YOU Can Do will be held at Central Christian Church, 1474 N. Washington.  For details, 888-2020.
