Getting to Know Your Neighbors-Springfield Neighborhood Night Out Tonight

Aug 22, 2014

If you’re driving around Springfield this evening, you may see more porch lights on than usual. This is the 17th year many Springfield neighborhoods are participating in the annual Neighborhood Night Out. In conjunction with the event, citizens are encouraged to turn on porch lights as a show of unity.

The event is part of a collaboration between many neighborhood associations, Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Springfield Police Department and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. The entities envision this as a way to raise crime prevention and strengthen communities by building neighborly relationships.

Activities like cookouts, children's games, informational booths, visits from police officers and live music will be available.  Bisset, Doling, Fulbright, Grant Beach, Midtown, Robberson, Weller, West Central and Westside neighborhoods are hosting events tonight.  Similar events will take place next month at Woodland Heights and Tom Watkins.
