Driving goggles and vintage ball gowns are just some of the items on display at the Springfield Greene County History Museum through mid-May. They’re part of an exhibit called “On the town: What people did for fun in Springfield.” As part of our ongoing local history series Sense of Place, KSMU’s Missy Shelton takes a tour of the exhibit.
The photograph of the 1905 Drury tennis team is one of many photos that are part of the exhibit “On the Town” at the History Museum for Springfield and Greene County. The hallway on the top floor of Springfield’s historic city hall is lined with photographs that chronicle the history of leisure activities in Springfield.
John Sellars is executive director of the museum.
If the historic photos of restaurants and company picnics whet your appetite, wander down to a room at the end of the hallway where vintage clothes are on display.
Sellars says the exhibit, which features photos and items from as far back as the 1800’s, can teach us something about how we live our lives today.
The exhibit “On the town: What people did for fun in Springfield” continues through May 16th at the History Museum for Springfield and Greene County.
