IMAGES: Flooding in East Springfield as Several Inches of Rain Fall

Up to six inches of rain fell on parts of east Springfield Sunday night.  According to National Weather Service meteorologist Andy Foster, there were around 60 water rescues as streets flooded and stranded vehicles.

"We had these storms that developed yesterday afternoon and last evening, and they did not move very quickly and sat, really, in the same spot for a persistent time, and we had one of those storms sit across eastern portions of the city of  Springfield, which produced, at least unofficial reports, up to five to six inches, and most of that occurred in a two-hour period," he said.

The storms also included hail, which coated surfaces in east Springfield.

According to Foster, there was just a half inch of rain recorded at the Springfield-Branson National Airport.

He said the sun will come out later today, and there’s not another chance for rain until later in the week.
