Learn the Ins and Outs of Personal Legal Documents

Leslie Carrier talks with Lois Zerrer, retired Elder Care Attorney, about the importance of getting your legal affairs in order for the year, specifically a Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare and a Durable Power of Attorney for Finances.

Zerrer describes the difference between these documents and a will and trust.  She says these are critical documents to have in place for each person, but it can often be intimidating to know where to start and what information to include.  While it may be easier and cheaper to get these document forms off the internet, Zerrer cautions on what to watch for and how an attorney can help navigate those difficult to answer issues.  She says, on a larger scale, having these documents in place is also an asset to our court system, as it prevents issues from ending up in probate court.  This saves court time and resources that can then be spent on other cases.
