Southern and Central Missouri are under a winter weather advisory this afternoon through tomorrow morning.

"We're expecting another storm system to develop over our region and push into the area late this afternoon through tonight.  We have the cold air already in place.  A little bit of moisture is going to give us a light wintery mix this evening across much of the area," said Mike Griffin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Springfield.

He said drivers should be careful during the evening commute and later even though precipitation is expected to be light.

"You know, it's not going to be very much," he said, "but as we all know it doesn't take that  much to cause a lot of problems.  We saw that this past weekend, so temperatures  could be below freezing, the ground's cold.  Any light, wintery precipitation like drizzle or even some sleet or light snow could cause some travel impacts."

Precipitation could be heavier in south central and southeast Missouri, including around the West Plains area.  According to the National Weather Service, total snow accumulations of up to one half inch and ice accumulations of around one tenth are expected in southwest and central Missouri. Higher amounts of ice from 0.15 to 0.20 inches will be possible over south central Missouri.

Griffin said the wintery mix is expected to start mid to late afternoon and end early tomorrow morning.
