Back by popular demand, a course on mindfulness and meditation is being offered to both staff and students this fall semester.  The course begins on September 22nd and lasts for four weeks. Pat Campbell leads the course drawing on 36 years of meditation experience and her studies with meditation master Eknath Easwaran, founder of the Blue Mountain Center for Meditation.

This course encourages you to join the “Mindful Revolution”, quoting the cover of the February 2014 edition of Time Magazine.

Campbell claims that we live in the “Age of Anxiety” and explains how, through utilizing the techniques of mindfulness and meditation, we can eliminate the tension we so readily consume.

This is a non-credit course offered by the university as a part of its emphasis on wellness. The fee for staff is $85, who may use their non-credit fee waiver. The course is free for students.

While mindfulness stems from the Buddhist tradition, both that practice and meditation have become secular and mainstream over the past several years. It is stated on the course web page that, “These techniques are universal and separate from any religion or sect.”

There is room for just 24 participants, and the online course description notes “The class filled up immediately last semester.” You can sign up by emailing Taylor Health and Wellness Center or calling the Student Wellness director, Jerilyn.
