A National retailer has agreed to purchase the site of the former Hickory Hills School. Menards will pay Springfield Public Schools $4 million for the lot.

SPS announced the agreement Tuesday. The district says the contract was executed on August 19 upon signature of the buyer, a week after it received approval by the school board during executive session. According to a news release, closing on the property could occur as early as February 2015.

Appraised in 2014 at a value of $4 million, the 15.2 acre property located on Chestnut Expressway just east of Highway 65 was the site of Hickory Hills School until January 2010. That’s when students moved into a newly constructed building at 4650 E. State Highway YY.
