A company founded and owned by Mercy has broken ground on a new facility in Republic. ROi (Resource Optimization & Innovation) will house the company’s custom surgical pack manufacturing facility, Custom Pack Solutions, in the 100,000-square-foot facility. ROi’s chief operating officer, Michael Rivard, said the packs are like tool kits for doctors to use when treating patients.
"It could be anything from a heart condition procedure or it could actually be a birth or appendectomy or anything you can think of. they contain the supplies that the surgeon needs to be able to perform that surgery," Rivard said.
He said the packs are sterilized and delivered to the procedure room.
"And a surgeon can walk in with the comfort that, when they arrive, everything that they need will be available, and it's specific to them," he said.
According to Rivard, ROi manufactures more than 500,000 packs a year, and the new facility will give them room to manufacture three times that amount. According to Mercy, in the last five years, ROi’s CPS program has grown more than 400 percent in pack volume, and more than 90 million total components have been placed in ROi packs to date.
More than 90 current ROi employees, including seven new positions, will work from the $10 million facility in Republic, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2017.
