Midwest Jewish Studies Association Conference Brings Dead Sea Scrolls Scholar to MSU

How much do you know about the Dead Sea Scrolls? On Sept. 10-12, the Springfield community will have the opportunity to learn about their storied past and significance as Missouri State University will be hosting the Midwest Jewish Studies Association conference. Dr. VadimPutzu, assistant professor of religious studies at Missouri State, is helping to coordinate the conference.

Dr. Lawrence Schiffman will give a free public lecture entitled “The Bible and its Interpretation in the Dead Sea Scrolls” on Sept. 11 in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom.

In a story that sounds like it’s taken from an adventure movie, the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947 inside a series of caves above the Dead Sea. Putzu shares a bit of the story that revealed the ancient text.

Nicki received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from Missouri State in marketing, in 2002 and 2004 respectively. After gaining experience in writing, marketing, special event planning, fundraising and public relations, she returned to the university to work in the office of strategic communication. There she tells the university’s story by sharing the stories of individuals at Missouri State.
