Missouri has Some of the Worst Drivers in the U.S., According to Report

According to a recent study by SmartAccess.com, Missouri is tied with California for having the third worst drivers in the county.

The study was based on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Traffic fatalities in Missouri have continued to rise over the last few years, according to the NHTSA.

Cindy Dunnaway, a district traffic engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT), says "it (traffic fatalities in MO) has gone up a little bit in the last few years, and what we kind of think that of a lot of that can be attributed to is the impact of distracted driving and just how many more people are tending to use their phones."

According to the study, 86 percent of Missouri drivers are insured, there are 4.58 DUI arrests per 1000 drivers and there are 1.28 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled.

Mississippi drivers ranked worst on the list, and the best drivers, according to the study, are in Massachusetts.

MODOT urges drivers to stay away from distractions while driving and watch out for other drivers while on the road.  You can find more tips on how to be a safer driver at www.modot.org/safety.
