More deer have been found to have Chronic Wasting Disease in Missouri.

The Department of Conservation says 11 new cases of CWD have recently been found in deer harvested in Macon, Adair and now Cole Counties.  A buck taken near the village of Centertown in Cole County is the first case of the disease found outside of the department’s six-county CWD containment Zone, according to MDC.

Since CWD was first discovered in the state in 2010 at a private hunting preserve in Linn County, 24 cases have been reported.

Chronic Wasting Disease infects only deer and member of the deer family by causing degeneration of the brain.  It has no vaccine or cure and is 100 percent fatal.

MDC deer biologist, Jason Summers, says they’re updating efforts to help contain the spread of the disease.
