Local food pantries will benefit from an event that begins this week at Ozarks Technical Community College.

In honor of National Hunger Awareness Week, OTC will host its second annual food drive today through November 20th.

According to OTC officials, the food drive is an effort to give back to the organizations that help many of the community college’s students.

Non-perishable food will be accepted at all of OTC’s campuses.  In Springfield, collection bins will be in Graff Hall, NKM, ITTC and Information Commons.

Food pantries that will benefit from the drive are Crosslines, Rare Breed, Least of These, Christian Action Ministries, L-Life Food Bank, Good Samaritan and the OTC Foundation’s Student Emergency Fund.

Cash donations can be made in the OTC Foundation Office, IC 206, on the Springfield campus.

The five campuses will compete to see who can collect the most food.

Last year, more than 5,055 pounds of food was collected for local food pantries.
