A film screening in Springfield tonight (10/13) is designed to raise awareness of the importance of getting a good start in life.

Every Child Promise, Child Care Aware of Southern Missouri, Community Partnership of the Ozarks and Council of Churches of the Ozarks are sponsoring the screening of the PBS documentary, "The Raising of America."  The five-part documentary series and engagement campaign explores how a strong start for all will lead to better outcomes across the board.

A community dialogue will follow the film, and participants are encouraged to "find their place in the community conversation," according to a news release from CPO.

The organization says, in Springfield, three in 10 children are not prepared to learn in kindergarten.  Those kids, it says often are growing up in poverty and in families that can't afford quality pre-K programming and resources.

The screening starts at 6 at the Springfield Art Museum.
