Next month, a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will be in Springfield "to examine all aspects of the Springfield Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services," according to the City of Springfield
It's part of a voluntary process to gain CALEA accreditation, which recognizes departments with professional excellence.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency personnel and community members are invited to share comments at a public information session at 5 p.m. on Aug. 11 in the Police SRT Building auditorium, 216 W. Central.
If someone isn't able to attend the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, they may call 417-864-1133 on Aug. 11 between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards, according to the City.
