Republican U.S. Senator Roy Blunt released a statement after Gov. Eric Greitens announced his resignation.

In it, he said, "the governor made the best decision for his family and the state. I look forward to Gov. Parson's leadership and will do everything I can to be helpful."

Missouri’s Democratic auditor, Nicole Galloway, in a statement said, “Corruption in state government became worse than ever under Eric Greitens. That corruption must be cleaned up, and our state's reputation must be restored. This can only happen if leaders put the needs of Missourians ahead of themselves.”

Springfield Mayor Ken McClure issued a statement about Lt. Governor Mike Parson of Bolivar following the resignation of Gov. Greitens.  McClure said he extends best wishes to Parson as he assumes the position of the Governor of the state of Missouri. According to city officials, McClure has known Parson since his service in the Missouri House of Representatives and Missouri Senate, and has worked with him in a variety of capacities over the past 13 years.

McClure said, “I am very optimistic about what I am sure will be our state’s continued growth and vitality under Governor Parson’s leadership. On behalf of the City of Springfield, I pledge the City’s full support to Governor Parson and his administration.”
