The city of Springfield is inviting citizens to attend a rally this Friday for injured police office Aaron Pearson.

Pearson, who was shot in the head last month, is undergoing treatment at the Sheppard Center in Atlanta, which specializes in spinal cord and brain injury.

The event will include a welcome by Mayor Bob Stephens; prayer and short service by Wesley United Methodist Church Pastor Scott Bailey-Kirk; song by contemporary Christian band Kutless; and a few words from Officer Pearson's father-in-law Tom Dempsey.

The rally begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Park Central Square, and precedes the Playin' and Prayin' for 1641 benefit concert at the Gillioz Theatre. That event starts at 8 p.m. The $20 ticket price will go to Pearson’s family. Featured artists include Dallas Jones & Molley Healey, Steve Smith & The Sneakers, and The Hurricanes (Jody Bilyeu, Barak Hill, Brandon Moore, and Dallas Jones). John Dillon, Steve Cash and other members of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils will be sitting in for a few songs throughout the evening as well.

Call 417-863-9491 or visit the Gillioz's website for details.

The Playin' and Prayin' event is one of dozens that have taken place or are planned to benefit the 30-year-old Pearson. His medical expenses and salary are currently covered by the city’s worker’s compensation plan. Additional funding will go toward his long-term care.
