Training will be held tonight (9/12) for anyone interested in helping the Southern Missouri Red Cross provide aid to victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Volunteers must commit to being deployed for at least 14 days and be ready to deploy within 48 hours after being assigned.
They must also be willing to work day or night shifts and be in good health with no physical limitations.
According to the Red Cross, the training will give volunteers a disaster services overview and teach them what to expect as a volunteer in a shelter.
The session will be held tonight (9/12) from 5:30 to 9 at the American Red Cross Chapter office, 1545 N. West Bypass, in Springfield. The session is limited to 40 participants who will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
The American Red Cross of Southern Missouri has deployed 20 volunteers to hurricane responses in Texas, Louisiana and Florida. Currently, 12 volunteers are working the Harvey response, and seven have been deployed to Irma.
