Results of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s annual inspection of school buses have been released.
Out of 11,986 school buses inspected between February 2 and May 15, 88.3 percent passed inspection.
Buses having one or more defective items that pose no threat to the safety of students are rated as “defective,” and buses with one more defective items that may compromise the safe transportation of students are rated as “out of service,” according to MSHP.
School districts can continue operating buses rated as “defective,” and are given ten days from the initial inspection to repair any defects.
A total of 257 buses were rated as “out of service” during the most recent inspection, and 1,150 were rated as “defective.”
