Road work ahead for Glenstone Avenue throughout the next month.

Glenstone Avenue is getting a facelift, and the work is scheduled to begin next week.

Improvements to the 1950’s-era pavement will begin Monday on Glenstone Avenue at the Evergreen Street and Kearney Street intersections. Some lanes will be closed overnight, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., to prepare to remove the pavement.

The lane closures kick off phase one of the two-phase project.

Brad Gripka, a resident engineer with MODOT, said this is the first time Glenstone has seen such major lane improvements.

“Well, I mean, we do expect traffic backups at times, but we are also placing a lot of message boards to give warning to the travelling public,” Gripka said. “They’ll probably need to be looking for some alternate routes for this several weeks of work that we have to do.”

Gripka also said each phase is scheduled to take about a month to complete.

This first phase is expected to be complete before the July 4th holiday.

The second phase of repairing the major Springfield roadway will occur near Commercial Street, and between Lombard Street and Page Street.

The total cost for the project is estimated at $3.7 million.
