A major employer celebrated its one-year anniversary in Springfield this week. KSMU's Michele Skalicky reports.
A Springfield employer held a celebration Wednesday, one year after it opened.
T-Mobile's Customer Service Center employs 660 people, and plans to have 820 full-time employees by early next year. Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan was on hand for the celebration.
Carnahan says the jobs the T-Mobile Customer Service Center provides are the kind of jobs that are needed in Springfield.
Carnahan credits the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce for attracting T-Mobile's service center to Springfield. Ryan Mooney, manager of business development for the Chamber, says they worked closely with the city and county, among others, to bring the facility to town. According to Mooney, Springfield is a natural fit for this type of employer.
Robin Carnahan says both the private sector and state government are working hard to bring new jobs to the state. But she says it's something they can't slack off on since there's a lot of competition both here in the United States and overseas.
