A temporary exhibit at the Springfield Art Museum is closed as police investigate a burglary at the facility.

The crime occurred between the hours of 5:30 p.m. on April 6 and 8:45 a.m. on April 7, according to police.

In a news release, Director Nick Nelson says the museum is open; however, the exhibition “The Electric Garden of Our Minds: British/American Pop” is closed, as a security measure.

“The museum is working with the proper authorities and being proactive in our security efforts as we remain open to the public. We are confident that the measures we taking will protect the museum’s treasures, while still making art accessible to our community,” Nelson said.

The exhibit has been on display since early this year and was scheduled through April 17. It features works by nearly all the central figures in the movement, including Andy Warhol, Richard Hamilton and Eduardo Paolozzi.

Sarah Buhr, Curator of the Springfield Mart Museum, spoke with KSMU’s Randy Stewart about the exhibit back in February.
