The Birthplace of Route 66 Festival is today through Sunday (8/14-8/16) in downtown Springfield. 

The event will feature a Route 66 parade, a vendor village, a two-day car and motorcycle show, a motorcycle poker run, concerts at the Gillioz, a 6.6 mile run and a confab or Route 66 authors, artists, collectors and association at the Old Glass Place, 501 E. Insect-O-Rama is tonight (8/14) from 6:30 to 9:30 at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  Learn all about insects through displays, crafts, games and exhibits featuring live insects.  No registration is required for this free program.  To learn more, 888-4237.

The City of Eureka Springs is hosting the annual Bluegrass Festival through tomorrow (8/15) with music by Clancy Ferguson, Dragon Masters, the Tennessee Gentlemen and more.  For details, theauditorium.org.

The Music at Founders Park Series continues this weekend.  “Cars” will be shown tonight (8/14) during a special drive-in movie screening at the Springfield Expo Center East Field.  The Blind Side will be shown tomorrow night (8/15) at Founders Park.  Free tickets are available in advance at the Busch Municipal Building, Mediacom Ice Park, Mediacom offices and the Dan Kinney, Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers.

John Sellars, executive director of the History Museum on the Square, will talk about the role that transportation played in the development of Springfield during the program, Springfield on the Go, tonight (8/14) at 6 at the Park Central Library.  It’s for anyone 13 and older.

The Boone County Library and the Ozark Arts Council will host a concert tonight (8/14) at 6:30 at the Lyric Theatre in Harrison, Arkansas.  It will feature the Coal Biters performing folk and Americana music and The Mountain West.  Admission is free.

The Marshfield Farmers Market will be open today (8/14) from 3 to 7 pm at 1331 Spur Drive in Marshfield. 

The exhibit, “Start Your Engines—the History of Motor Racing in the Ozarks” is at the Springfield-Greene County History Museum in the Fox Theatre on Park Central Square through August 29th.  Hours are 10:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Acoustic Jam on the Square is held Friday nights on the square in West Plains.  Take blankets and lawn chairs and instruments if you want to join in.

A free gospel concert, featuring the Martins and the TrueLove Quartet, will start tonight (8/14) at 7 at the Cowan Civic Center in Lebanon.

The Ava Summerscape Orchestra will give a concert tomorrow night (8/15) at 7 at the Ava Performing Arts Center.  For ticket information, click here.

Joplin residents may drop off limbs and brush for free today (8/15) at the city’s processing site.  And, the Great Wood Chip Giveaway is today (8/14) at 1702 N. Schifferdecker Ave. in Joplin.  The city will load wood chips into your truck or trailer—no limit.  It’s open to anyone, regardless of residency.

Tomorrow (8/15) is McDonald’s Day at Dickerson Park Zoo.  Admission is $1 all day, and children two and younger get in free.
