In this edition of Weekend Outlook, Michele Skalicky talks with Christine Peoples about an event taking place tomorrow (2/7) beginning at 11:30 at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library in celebration of African American Heritage Month.

The second annual Wine into Water event will be held at National Avenue Christian Church, 1515 S. National, tonight (2/6) at 7 to support global water projects in Africa.  Appetizers, beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be available.  For tickets, 869-9176.

Morris Arboretum

The series, Gardens of American History, continues tonight (2/6) at 6 at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center.  Learn about the Morris Arboretum and Longwood Gardens.  Admission is free.

Movie Night

Kids age 13 to grade 12 are invited to see the film, “Warm Bodies,” rated PG-13, tonight (2/6) at 6 at the Library Center.  Popcorn will be provided.

Registration closes at noon today (2/6) for a class on basic landscaping and on mushroom identification set for tomorrow afternoon (2/7) from 1 to 4 at the Nixa Community Center.  It’s being presented by Christian County Master Gardeners.  To register, 581-3558.

Drury on C-Street, at 233 E. Commercial, will open the exhibit, “Wild” tonight (2/6) during First Friday Art Walk.  The exhibit is designed to bring awareness to issues of animal protection and prevention of habitat destruction.  An opening reception will be held tonight from 6 to 8 with free cupcakes, live music and a cash bar.  Donations will be accepted for the World Wildlife Fund.  The exhibit will continue through February 27th.  Also tonight at the gallery, retired Drury President Todd Parnell will debut his keynote speech, “Life Is A River … Experiences in Leadership,” at 5:30.  He’ll share his diverse leadership and entrepreneurial experiences in the context of a river.  To learn more, drury.edu

Tonight (2/6) at the Park Central Branch Library:  the art talk, “Three Spaces:  Critical Utopianism for Contemporary Audiences” will be presented by Drury art history and architecture student Kevin Rogan at 6.  Springfield Regional Opera’s Operazzi open mic night starts at 7.  And anyone is invited to stop by the library from 7 to 9 to make fusion bead art.  For details, 831-1342.
