The Tri-State Gem and Mineral Society’s Spring Rock Swap will be held Friday and Saturday (5/18-5/19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday (5/20) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Joplin History and Mineral Museum in Joplin, MO. 

The Little Acorns program, Big Mouth Bullfrogs, for kids three to six, will be held Friday (5/18) at 11:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Saturday (5/19) at 10 and 11:15 a.m. at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center.  To register, (417) 888-4237. 

The 2018 Raptor Run will be held Friday night (5/18) at the Missouri Institute of Natural Science, 2327 W. Farm Rd. 190 in Springfield.  A fun run starts at 6:15 and a 5K at 6:30. 

MOXIE FLIX, a monthly series focusing on films kids should see before they turn 13, will feature the film, “Back to the Future” from 1985, Friday afternoon (5/18) at 4:30 and Saturday morning (5/19) at 10.  Admission is free. 

The Freeman Joplin Memorial Run will be held Saturday (5/19) starting in front of Memorial Hall at 8th and Joplin Streets in downtown Joplin.  The event was started as a way to honor the 161 people who lost their lives in the Joplin tornado seven years ago.  The event includes a half marathon, a four-person half marathon relay, a 5K and a kids’ run.  A Walk of Silence starts Friday night (5/18) at 7 with 161 banners honoring the tornado victims lining Joplin St. from 9th to 20th

Kids in preschool through second grade are invited to the program, “Libraries Rock with Dino O’Dell,” Friday morning (5/18) at 10 at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library and Saturday morning (5/19) at 10:30 at the Library Center. 

The Libraries Rock! Summer Reading Kick Off is Friday (5/18) at Springfield-Greene County branch libraries.  Pick up game boards and enjoy fun activities.  And Summer Reading Kick Off Parties will be held Saturday (5/19) at various library branches. 

The 28th annual Crawdad Days Music Festival will be held Friday and Saturday (5/18-5/19) at Lake Harrison in Harrison, Arkansas.  The event includes the Meet me Under the Big Top 5K Run, canoe rides, pony rides, a car show, carnival, crafts, live music, a crawdad eating contest and more. 

May Days on the Squarewill be held Friday through Sunday (5/18-5/20) in downtown Harrison, Arkansas with a car show, vendors, live music and more. 

The 31st annualMay Festival of the Arts is this month in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  The Chalk Art Street Festival continues Friday, Saturday and Sunday (5/18-5/20), and nationally-known chalk street artist, Craig Thomas will give free workshops Friday.  The 28th annual White Street Studio Walk will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. on historic White Street. 

The Honoring Our Heroes Festival, featuring a steak cookoff, a Kid Zone and more, will be held Saturday (5/19) from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at American Legion Post 639, 2660 S. Scenic in Springfield. 

TheStomp the Blues Festivalto raise money for area hunger relief organizations will be held Saturday (5/19) from noon to 10:30 p.m. at Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, 220 W. Plainview Rd. in Springfield. 

The Motorcycle Awareness Poker Run will be held Saturday (5/19) starting and ending at the Gazebo on the square in Harrison, Arkansas. 

A free concert featuring Jonathan Byrd and the Pickup Cowboy starts Saturday night (5/19) at 5 at Basin Spring Park in downtown Eureka Springs, Arkansas. 

Ruby’s Market, 2843 E. Sunshine, will host the Local Food Fest Saturday (5/19) from 11 to 4 to benefit Rescue One.  There will be activities for kids, live music, BBQ contest, beer samples and raffle prizes. 

Kids Fishing Day is Saturday (5/19) from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Roaring River State Park and Fish Hatchery near Cassville. 

Coffee with a Cop will start Saturday morning (5/19) at 9:30 in the JC Penney East Court at the Battlefield Mall.  It’s a chance for law enforcement officers and the public to come together to ask and answer questions. 

The Missouri State University Community Band will be the featured performer during Arts in the Park Saturday night (5/19) at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, 6424 W. Farm Rd. 182 in Republic.  Take a blanket or lawn chair.  Admission is free. 

Bluegrass in the Park, featuring Red Bridge Bluegrass, will start Saturday (5/19) at 1 at the Fair Grove Branch Library.  There will also be kids’ activities and face painting. 

The 15th annual Red Ribbon Ride, a cycling event to benefit AIDS Project of the Ozarks, will be held Saturday (5/19) with several ride options available.  All rides begin at Galloway Station Bar and Grill, 1281 E. Republic Rd. in Springfield. 

Adults are invited to a Scrabble Tournament Saturday (5/19) from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library. 

Yoga for Health, a program for adults, will be held Saturday afternoon (5/19) at 2 at the Library Station. 

The MO Humanities Council will hold aVeterans Writing WorkshopSaturday morning (5/19) at 9 for veterans and their families at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library. 

Geezerfest is Saturday night (5/19) from 7 to 9 on the south patio at the Library Center featuring the band, Geezer.  It’s for adults only, and admission is free. 

Art Gone Wild is Saturday (5/19) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. atDickerson Park Zoo with hands-on activities presented, in part, by the Springfield Regional Arts Council.  Endangered Species Day is being observed Saturday at the zoo as well. Regular admission applies.  

Include Ozarks will present the program, “The Art of Effective Advocacy,” Saturday morning (5/19) at 9:30 for adults at the Library Center.  Child care will be provided.  To register, (417) 616-0554.

The Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site in Ash Grove is hosting “Third Saturdays at the Homestead in 2018.”  Saturday (5/19), the Boone Home will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with interpreters teaching period games with historically accurate toys.  Belle’s Storybook Trail will also be offered.  Participants will listen to excerpts from the children’s storybook, “Belle,” while walking a short trail. 

Prairie State Park in Mindenmines, MO will offer a Wildflower Walk Saturday morning (5/19) at 10.  The hike will be 1 ½-2 miles. 

Cajun Days 2018is Saturday (5/19) from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Reeds Spring featuring live music, food and vendor booths.   

Springfield Streetfest 2018 will be held Saturday (5/19) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Battlefield Mall parking lot. 

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center’s Conservation TEENS will travel to area streams Saturday (5/19) to learn sampling techniques and learn what lives in our waters.  To register, (417) 888-4237.  Learn more here.

The Lebanon Farmer’s Market will be open Saturday (5/19) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Lebanon, off Jefferson by the railroad tracks.  

The C-Street City Market will be open Saturday (5/19) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Footbridge on Commercial Street. 

The Greater Ozarks Farmers’ Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday (5/19) in the southeast corner of the Battlefield Mall Parking Lot. 

Farmers’ Market of the Ozarks will be open Saturday (5/19) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2144 E. Republic Rd. in Springfield.

Two local films will be shown this weekend at the Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell in downtown Springfield.  See “Dust” Sunday night (5/20)( at 6:30 and “Possession” Sunday night at 6. 

George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, MO will show the film, “Sister of Selma,” Sunday afternoon (5/20) at 1.

TheSounds of Summer Concert Series continues Sunday (5/20) at the Peace Through People Pavilion at Nathanael Greene-Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic in Springfield.  The 2 p.m. concert will feature the Community Jazz Ensemble.  Take blankets or lawn chairs.
