What to do with a 15 Ton Statue? Branson City Officials Want Your Input

City of Branson

A World War II statue in Branson depicts 50 soldiers storming a beach.  The 15-ton, bronze statue was purchased along with two others from Cornerstone Bank in York, Nebraska for $1 million.  Two are currently on display in the city, but the so-called “50-Man Statue” is in storage.  Now, city leaders are trying to decide what to do with it.

City officials said, since the statue was purchased with taxpayer money, they want taxpayers’ input on what should happen to the statue.  Should the city sell it?  Keep it?  And, if it keeps it, where should it be displayed?

Branson City Manager Stanley Dobbins said “the city is adamant on doing the right thing with this statue and piece of valued history.”  He said the statue represents an era that should not be forgotten.
