Springfield will soon welcome its newest member to city council, as officials this week will interview the five applicants for its Zone 1 seat.

The zone, located in the northwest quadrant of the city, was recently vacated by Jeff Seifried after he moved to Branson.

Brent Esch, Joseph Hoffman, Eric Wood, Phyllis Ferguson, and Brittany Hopp will all be interviewed Tuesday as part of the council’s weekly lunch meeting.

The city has said the candidate selected will be sworn in immediately. This will mark the fifth new person to join City Council within the past few weeks, after voters selected four new candidates earlier this month.

The Zone 1 seat was not part of the April 7 election because Seifried’s withdrawal from the post came after the deadline to add it to the ballot. So council opened the seat up for applications.
