Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra Offers Songs by Vaughan Williams and a Mozart Symphony

The Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra presents vocal music of Vaughan Williams and one of Mozart's last symphonies at their next concert.

Founded in 2005, the Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra is a regional community orchestra comprising more than 100 professionals, students, and enthusiasts.  The orchestra's next concert is Sunday November 2nd at 6:00pm in Drury University's Clara Thompson Hall.  Music Director Christopher Koch will conduct Ralph Vaughan Williams' song cycle "On Wenlock Edge" with tenor Stephen Bomgardner, and Mozart's Symphony No. 39.  Tickets will be available only at the door beginning one hour before the concert (5:00 PM in Clara Thompson lobby).  General admissions, cash or check only.

Join Tabula Rasa Theatre Production Company for a story that will appeal to people of all ages: "The Arkansaw Bear" by Aurand Harris, to be performed Friday and Saturday Nov. 7 and 8 at 6:30pm at the Discovery Center of Springfield.  Saddened and bewildered at her grandfather's approaching death, Tish runs to her "special tree." There, in a world of fantasy provided by her wish on a star, she meets the world's greatest dancing bear. He is old, like her grandfather, and is running away—from death.

20th Annual "Art in the Park" This Weekend--Rain or No Rain

Artists create because they're driven to express something in themselves.  The creative process is fun and rewarding, of course, but most rewarding of all is when an artist can share his or her creation with others. That's the idea behind "Art in the Park," the annual fine-art and contemporary craft show and sale sponsored by the all-volunteer Southwest Missouri Art and Craft Guild, as part of their mission to support working artists in the area.  Art in the Park celebrates its 20th anniversary this weekend at Sequiota Park, 3500 S.

Trumpeter Bob Lark to Headline 5th Annual Springfield Jazz Festival

The 5th annual Springfield Jazz Festival will present a full evening-long jazz festival on two stages around Park Central Square in downtown Springfield, featuring various local artists along with nationally known headliner, trumpeter and jazz educator Bob Lark, performing with the Missouri Jazz Orchestra.  The date is Friday October 3rd, and it's FREE and open to the public.
