Making Democracy Work

Monday, 9:30 a.m.

The League of Women Voters of Southwest Missouri brings you this weekly program, which covers a variety of topics related to the Ozarks and democracy.

In this segment of the League of Women Voters' Making Democracy Work, Leslie Carrier talks with Kathryn Wall, public health information administrator for the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, about the new website,, which serves as a community dashboard.

Leslie Carrier talks with Lisa Hall, assistant professor of sociology at MSU and a member of the League of Women Voter's study committee, about the issue the League decided to study this year.

Carrier says the LWV's mission is to educate voters about government issues, and each year the League chooses a topic to study more in depth to determine what, if any, changes need to take place, what could be advocated for or what needs to be brought to the attention of the general public.

Leslie Carrier talks with MO Secretary of State Jason Kander about his office's efforts to protect investors.

According to Kander, the office has a diverse portfolio of responsibilities, including the role of Chief Securities Regulator.  A team of lawyers, auditors and investigators, "work to help Missourians who, in one way or another, have been scammed," he said.

Although most of the state's financial services employees are honest, hard-working professionals, he says, there are those who want to take advantage of people.
