Choral Tradition 10/18/09

This week we're trying to raise money for KSMU programming, and present a couple of highly-contrasted works: the 17th-century Biblical oratorio Historia di Jepthe by Giacomo Carissimi; and the "Fire Songs," six madrigals on Italian Renaissance poems by contemporary American choral composer Morten Lauridsen.

Giacomo CARISSIMI (1605-1674): Historia di Jephte (27:06) (Bach Sinfonia & Sinfonia Voci/Daniel Abraham) CD TITLE: "Passion and Lament" (Dorian Sono Luminus DSL-90913)

Morten LAURIDSEN (b.1943): Madrigali--Six "Fire Songs" on Italian Renaissance Poems (21:39) (Elora Festival Singers/Noel Edison) CD TITLE: "Morten Lauridsen: Choral Works" (Naxos 8.559304)
