Choral Tradition 7/26/2009

This week: two early Masses by Mozart... "early" meaning Mozart was only 12 or 13 years old when he composed both of these works! The recordings come from two large CD box sets issued by Teldec and Philips in 1991 for the Mozart bicentennial year.

1) MOZART: Missa Solemnis in C minor, K.139, "Waisenhaus" (Barbara Bonney, soprano; Jadwiga Rappé, alto; Josef Protschka, tenor; Håkan Hagegård, baritone; Arnold Schoenberg Choir; Concentus Musicus Wien--Nikolaus Harnoncourt) ALBUM TITLE: "Mozart/Harnoncourt--Sacred Music" (Teldec 9031-72479-2, published 1991)

2) MOZART: Missa brevis in D minor, K.65/61a (Helen Donath, soprano; Annette Markert, alto; Uwe Heilmann, tenor; Andreas Schmidt, baritone; Leipzig Radio Chorus and Symphony Orchestra--Herbert Kegel) ALBUM TITLE: "COMPLETE MOZART EDITION: Missae; Requiem" (Philips 422 519-2, published 1991)
