The Choral Tradition (Sunday 5/10/2009)

This week we revisit some recordings that introduced many music lovers to some lesser-known choral works of Mozart back in the mid-1950s, on a new CD from Archipel sourced from Vox LPs ca.1954-55.

1) MOZART: Missa Brevis in C, "Credo Mass," K.257 (Annelore Cahnbley-Maedel, soprano; Gertrud Schretter, alto; George Maran, tenor; Walter Raninger, bass; Franz Sauer, organist; Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and Chamber Choir, Bernhard Paumgartner conducting)

2) MOZART: Two Masonic Cantatas:

"Little Masonic Cantata," K.623, and "Dir, Seele des Weltalls," K.429 (Rudolf Christ & Erich Majkut, tenors; Walter Berry, bass; Vienna Chamber Choir; Vienna Symphony, Bernhard Paumgartner conducting)
