Chili Peppers in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! We'd play some GnR, but, well, I don't want to play the radio songs that we all know and all of the rest of them will get me in trouble. So how about some Ornette Coleman instead?
New stuff from the Shins!!!! Instrumental metal from Scale the Summit; Avant-garde fusion from Allan Holdsworth and then a whole bunch of guitar players named John.
Primus! Woo Hoo!!!!!!! Know what I mean? Then some TRAM, which is what Animals as Leaders sounds like when they forget to buy batteries for the distortion pedal. Then a whole planet's worth of organic and digital sleepy time beat making for your Friday enjoyment!
Some post-rock and Avant Garde Jazz stylings tonight. Along with the Blue Man Group. This has been a very boring description. Sorry about that, I could really use a sandwich.
More Jazz and some avant garde goodies tonight on your Excursion. Also, wash your hands, it helps prevent the spread of disease and if you have been eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich you might also have some jelly on your hands that needs to be washed off.
Phoenix for a get well Otis!!!! Donald Fagen for Mr. Farklestein's birthday, himself. And then there was the guitar, it just wouldn't shut up. On your Friday Excursion!
In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.
It's the Excursion before Christmas and all through the show no Christmas music was stirring, as per tradition. Here's a break from the madness! I just want to wish you both good luck, we're all counting on you.
Glasser and Yaz, no they aren't internet startups, they're bands silly! With some old school Modesty from the Mouse. Sco and Pat can see your house and E-Vax can see the parking lot. Also, that Peter Gabriel album from a couple weeks ago wasn't very good, so here is some good Peter Gabriel. Its got raisins, your favorite!
It's the show where we totally steal the "Up to Eleven" idea from All Songs Considered. Happy 11/11/11 everybody! Now turn up your radios and get with it!
Man, how about some freaky guitar playing? Sounds like a good idea to us too! And if you're not into that, then we've got some Amon Tobin and Dave Holland for you as well.
Due to technical difficulties, Thom and Lori couldn't get into the studio, so we had to play a backup recording. It was last week's show, so go there for the rundown. We played this setlist on September 30th. Celebrating the birthday of John Coltrane, and why not, playing some Monk as well!
