Mulberry Tree

A holiday-theme show that also includes songs like George Harrison's "Give Me Love, Give Me Peace on Earth" and Cat Stevens' "Peace Train."

This week, songs from the "Trio II" album of Emmylou Harris, Linda Rondstadt and Dolly Parton; songs of Cat Stevens sung by him and by Carly Simon; also James Taylor from his CD "Covers;" and music from Ellen Gomez, Gloria Attoun and Karla Bonoff. Also: music of Kate Wolf and Lennon/McCartney performed by various artists including John Gorka, Tommy Emmanuel and Bull Harmon.

Note: the show started nearly a half-hour late because of a problem with Whad'ya Know? earlier in the evening, whose network feed ran a half-hour long (for which they've apologized profusely to the network stations!). This caused both Hearts of Space and Mulberry Tree to start late... but at least both ran in their entireties!

This week: fishing songs by Tim & Mollie O'Brien, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Michael "Supe" Granda. Also: songs by Townes van Zandt performed by Emmylou Harris & Don Williams, and Richard Shindell. And Crosby, Stills & Nash take on a classic Harry Nilsson song.

This week, Emily features George Harrison, Levon Helm and Neil Young; also, Patty Griffin, the Duhks, Peter Rowan, Chris Smither, Mark Bilyeu, Lucy Kaplansky, and Doug Smith.

Emily's Thanksgiving show features Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lyle Lovett, Crosby & Nash, Fairport Convention, Emmylou Harris, Jan Marra, the Youngbloods, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Peter Rowan & Tony Rice, Mark O'Connor, Jay Ungar, three flute players and 300 turkeys!

This week, music from James Taylor, John Hartford, Nancy Griffith, Gordon Lightfoot (both as songwriter and as performer), Michael Smith, Tish Hinojosa, the Sandroids, and Gary Gallier.

In addition to cuts by Paul McCartney, Iris Dement and Tommy Emmanuel, Emily plays tracks with a local/regional connection by Larry Lee, Lyal Strickland, and Still on the Hill.

This week, Emily features Leonard Cohen’s own recording of his song “Suzanne” and James Taylor’s cover version. Also this week, Richard Shindell, Shawn Colvin, Nickel Creek, Rob Boyle, Lyal Strickland, and Kate Wolf.

KSMU revives “Mulberry Tree” on a new night (Sundays at 10) and with a new host, local folk/acoustic performer Emily Higgins. This first show features George Harrison, John Hartford, the late Mary Travers, Ray Bonneville, and the Wailin’ Jennys.
