This afternoon's major work is Bruckner's Symphony No.6 from a live Concertgebouw Orchestra concert conducted by Eugen Jochum. Also: an early Haydn string quartet; the Piano Concerto in F minor by Anton Arensky; Mozart's Violin Concerto in G played by Gioconda de Vito in one of her last recordings before retiring from public view in the early 1960s; and an orchestral suite from Richard Strauss's opera Die Frau ohne Schatten (The Woman Without a Shadow), arranged and conducted by Erich Leinsdorf.

HOUR 2 (2:00-3:00PM)
A single work this hour, BRUCKNER's Symphony No.6 in A major, with Eugen Jochum leading the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. Another selection from the huge box set, "Anthology of the R.C.O.--The Radio Recordings 1980-1990 (Radio Netherlands RCO 08005).
HOUR 3 (3:00-4:00PM)
Italian violinist Gioconda de Vito retired from public life after playing twice for Pope Pius XII at the Vatican in the late 1950s, figuring there was nowhere for her career to go but down from there! She disliked making recordings, and probably wouldn't have... if she hadn't been married to EMI record producer David Bicknell. From her last recording sessions in 1959, she plays MOZART's Violin Concerto in G, K.216 with the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra, Rafael Kubelik conducting (reissued by I.D.I.S, Instituto Discografico Italiano, on IDIS-6464; the CD is called "Gioconda de Vito: The Last Recordings").
One more live Concertgebouw Orchestra performance from the 14-disc box set Radio Netherlands RCO-08005: conductor Erich Leinsdorf's orchestral Suite derived from RICHARD STRAUSS's opera Die Frau ohne Schatten (The Woman Without a Shadow).
