Springfield has hired Frank Romines as its new city attorney. Romines currently serves as senior corporate counsel for Jack Henry & Associates, Inc. He’ll begin his role with the city on July 13.

According to a news release from the city, Romines began his career as an associate attorney in Husch & Eppenberger, LLC’s Springfield office. He has also worked for Shughart, Thomson and Kilroy, P.C. as an associate attorney and Leggett & Platt, Inc., where he served as assistant general counsel.


Though some would say the new city ordinance regarding public indecency is a reaction to the Free the Nipple Rally, Springfield is still experiencing uncertainty whether the law will affect future protests downtown.

The ordinance requiring more complete coverage of women’s breasts and men’s and women’s buttocks passed by a 5-4 margin on September 14.

Clarification on the much publicized Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) ballot measure was the goal of a Thursday evening forum in Springfield, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Southwest Missouri.

Springfield City Attorney Dan Wichmer gave a presentation and answered questions from the audience on the provisions of ordinance number 6141. It was passed in October but then sent to the voters following a successful referendum petition.

A citizens group opposed to a new Walmart in Springfield is vowing to continue its fight after a judge has ruled that a referendum petition to overturn the city’s zoning decision allowing for the market cannot be used. KSMU’s Scott Harvey has details.
