Citizens of Missouri’s 136th House District decide this month whether to vote Republican Kevin Austin to a third term or elect Democrat Jeff Munzinger to the seat.

It’s been eight years since a Democrat has actually run for the position.

“I know a lot of people were willing to say ‘you just can’t win there’, but obviously we hope to prove those people wrong,” Munzinger said.

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri and fellow Republican contenders for statewide office rallied voters in Springfield Wednesday, as part of a push to build momentum into Election Day.

Blunt, who is being challenged for his seat by Democrat Jason Kander, defended his record before some 300 attendees, saying the negative ads against him “couldn’t possible and reasonably be true.”

Candidates for Missouri House of Representatives Districts 132 and 135 will participate in a forum tomorrow night (11/3) in Springfield.  The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Southwest Missouri and Community Partnership of the Ozarks.

The incumbent in both of those races is not seeking re-election. The 132nd District representative, Charlie Norr, isn’t running due to term limits, while the 135th District representative, Lincoln Hough, decided not to seek re-election and instead is running for Greene County Commissioner.

With polls showing a near toss-up in the race between incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt and Democrat Jason Kander, the candidates are touring the state in a final push to get out the vote.

On Tuesday, Missouri’s Secretary of State addressed some 50 supporters at Big Momma’s Coffee on Springfield’s north side. Kander reiterated his stance that he’ll be an advocate for the middle class.

Republican Sonya Murray Anderson has served in the Missouri House for four years, representing District 131. On November 8, she'll share the ballot with Democrat Nate Branscom and Libertarian Arthur Hodge.

The district covers part of northern Springfield and a largely rural area to the north.
